Drought Program
Child centered disaster preparedness program was implemented in the 10 project villages of Dudu block of district Jaipur. The program was focused on generating awareness among the community to develop sustainable measures to resist disastrous situation and thus to protect rights of the children violated due to any kind of mishap. Entire program was organized through intensive community participation especially of children.
To ensure sustainability of the program community members were given complete authority of implementing project activities and their participation was increased at every level of the program. At the end of finishing period, community groups took complete ownership of the program through forming committees and federations. Before initiating the program certain indicators were defined to measure the implementation process. At the end of program, implemented efforts were visible in the form of following measurable indicators:
- Awareness among community towards child rights protection policy.
- Community awareness on welfare schemes and habit of initiative taking.
- Establishment of responsible and authoritative community groups to raise community voice.
- Networking and liasoning; important stakeholders responsible for rural development and child rights protection.
- Leadership and power of expression among children and women.
- Ownership and self-decisive power among community.
- Understanding of drought, its impact and measures to develop methods of redressal.
- Community interest in the program activities in the form of providing space for Bal Bhavan in the project villages.
- Establishment of grain bank with community ownership and to be run by revolving fund received from people.
- Community involvement in environment protection and reducing drought through plantation and kitchen garden in every village.
- Interest of stakeholders and local administration visible after continuous block and district interactions.
- Establishment of rainwater harvesting tanks both personal and community as a sustainable means for water storage and reduction of wastage of water.
- Increased level of awareness on drought and disaster preparedness issues through capacity building of various stakeholders.
- Development of Disaster preparedness plan by individual villages and complete involvement of community in it.
- Attention of government towards program activities due to high level of community involvement and development of ideal models in the villages.
