Rural women have certain restrictions and limitations in context of involvement and leadership. Male dominance and patriarchal system of society has made such provisions, which become stronger in villages. These women are not raising their voice against any kind of violence or problems in their routine. They are forced to give priorities to their family first then to their personal demands.

Self-Help Women’s Groups

To empower women, SARA formed women groups, called self-help groups. In these groups women save a fix set of money in to their account. They are also free to take loans from collective savings of the group. The activity has brought remarkable changes in them.

  1. Self-reliance among women.
  2. Confidence and decision-making.
  3. Increased social, economical and mental status in the community.

SARA has been active in inculcating saving habits in women as this makes them more independent. To concretize this effort,SARA has been organizing these women into saving groups. Ten such saving groups in seven villages were formed during 1999-2000 on the initiative of SARA. These groups have their own rules and regulations. SARA has been helping these saving groups in formulation of the rules and regulations, Procedure for obtaining loan, repayment of loan, keeping accounts of the saving groups.
