Mother and Child Welfare Programme :

SARA co-ordinates this programme through trained traditional birth attendants. With the relatively scarce health care provisions and the long distances to health centers, it is important to make sure that local women are trained in basic skills of midwifery. SARA is instrumental in training women, who take on this role. They ensure safe deliveries, impart education on general principles of health and hygiene and increase awareness and willingness of villagers to have their children immunized. Under this programme the Dais take care of pregnant women. They educate the expectant mothers on the importance of vaccines and distribute free iron tablets. The Dais also assist in childbirth and refer the more complicated cases to nearby hospitals. They motivate women to space children, inform them about available birth control measures and encourage them to use them properly.

Working with rural women over a period of time, has made it clear that they suffer from numerous gynaecological problems for which no diagnostic and treatment facilities exist. SARA therefore organizes periodical Gynaecological Camps to investigate and treat such problems. Besides inviting lady doctors, arrangements for pathological investigations and Sonography are also made during the camps.
