Advocacy

  • Consultation with government officials at district and block level with complete participation of district and block level officers helped in gaining support and attention to the program.
  • Project coordination resulted in the increased direct interactions of different village groups for their various demands.
  • Networking with NGO’s and stakeholders resulted in the spread of program objectives and initiatives in other areas of districts through Kala Jathha & publications.
  • Intra village interactions between Bal Samooh and VDC remove hesitation among children and they became habitual of expressing their feelings and interests.

Mitigation Initiatives

  • Construction water storage structures in the schools enabled the children to cope up with problem of drinking water and also acted as model for nearby villages.
  • Construction of individual tanks for community not only addressed problem of drinking water but also motivated other members of the community to adopt such permanent sources of storage.
  • Establishment of grain banks in the villages with complete ownership of community created confidence among community and permanent resource in disastrous situations.

Education

  • Increased awareness of different stakeholders on drought and responsible factors for drought.
  • Increased understanding on developing measures to address disastrous situations.
  • Education learning kits for children gave space to facilitate their overall development.
  • Children groups were able to reduce their hesitation, understand their rights and raise voice for them and expose their skills through exposure visit, Bal mela and Bal Sammelan.
  • Protection of environment and promotion of clean environment through development of kitchen garden and plantation program.
  • Ownership of children and leadership qualities in community development activities through establishment of groups and separate Bal Bhawans to share experiences.

Community Organization

  • Strengthening community voice through forming various groups.
  • Sustainability of group strengths through continuous meetings and raising problems at various levels.
  • Development of understanding and importance of disaster preparedness resulted in the development of preparedness plans by the community members.

Institutional Strengthening

  • To strengthen groups, community members developed federation and Mahasangh to provide recognition to their identity.
  • Development of ownership and authority among groups.

Visibility

  • Program dissemination through various means of IEC increased spread of the objectives and drew attention of the community and officials.
  • Dissemination of project strategies and understanding of drought through local media gain (Kala Jathha) support at various levels.
  • Publication of informative material for community supported in increasing understanding towards various schemes and gaining benefits of them.
